The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

start­ing as soon as pos­sible. The pos­i­tion is ini­tially lim­ited to three years with the option of exten­sion and aims at obtain­ing fur­ther aca­demic qual­i­fic­a­tion (e.g. habil­it­a­tion thesis: Ger­man teach­ing qual­i­fic­a­tion). The period of employ­ment is gov­erned by the Fixed Term Research Con­tracts Act (Wis­senschaft­szeitver­trags­ge­setz – Wis­sZeitVG). Bal­an­cing fam­ily and career is an import­ant issue. The pos­i­tion is gen­er­ally suit­able for can­did­ates seek­ing part-time employ­ment. Please indic­ate your request in your applic­a­tion.

The research group invest­ig­ates the intra- and inter­in­di­vidual con­sequences of intraper­sonal con­flict in the broad sense (cog­nit­ive con­flict, ambi­val­ence, mixed emo­tions, atti­tu­dinal con­flict, doubt, and uncer­tainty). The main focus is on under­stand­ing how such con­flict shapes affect, cog­ni­tion, and beha­vior at the indi­vidual and inter­per­sonal level. For example, the research in the group exam­ines the cog­nit­ive under­pin­nings of (sub­ject­ive) con­flict and its con­sequences for inform­a­tion pro­cessing, (social) decision-mak­ing, and social judg­ments. We study these pro­cesses across a broad range of domains, from social beha­vior to work and rela­tion­ships, to beha­vi­oral change in dif­fer­ent areas. We use a wide range of meth­ods ran­ging from self-report, response time, and pro­cess track­ing, to incent­ive-based beha­vi­oral paradigms. Working field:

sci­entific research and teach­ing and the devel­op­ment of inde­pend­ent sci­entific ideas in the research area of the chair. Duties include the guid­ance and sup­port of stu­dents and doc­toral can­did­ates in sci­entific work, acquir­ing third-party fund­ing pro­jects, and suc­cess­fully pub­lish­ing sci­entific work. Fur­ther­more, par­ti­cip­a­tion in the Social Psy­cho­logy Chair teach­ing and exam­in­a­tion in the Bach­elor and Mas­ter pro­grams in Psy­cho­logy and Human Per­form­ance Socio-Tech­no­lo­gical Sys­tems, is required.

Requirements:

a uni­versity (Dip­loma/Mas­ter) and PhD degree in psy­cho­logy or related fields (e.g. Beha­vi­oral or Exper­i­mental Eco­nom­ics). Will­ing­ness to pur­sue own sci­entific qual­i­fic­a­tion/career and acquis­i­tion of third-party fun­ded pro­jects. Exper­i­ence with pro­cess tra­cing (e.g., mouse track­ing, eye track­ing) and/or neur­os­cience meth­ods (EEG) and advanced data skills (com­pu­ta­tional mod­el­ing, machine learn­ing, data scrap­ing) are an advant­age. Teach­ing exper­i­ence is a plus. The work­ing lan­guage in the group is Eng­lish and excel­lent writ­ten and spoken Eng­lish skills are essen­tial. Addi­tional Ger­man lan­guage skills are an advant­age, as well as the will­ing­ness to learn Ger­man dur­ing the first two years.
