Tech­nis­che Uni­versität Dresden (TUD), as a Uni­versity of Excel­lence, is one of the lead­ing and most dynamic research insti­tu­tions in the coun­try. The Cen­ter for Regen­er­at­ive Ther­apies Dresden (CRTD) at TUD con­sists of 25 inter­na­tional research groups work­ing in the field of regen­er­a­tion across mul­tiple organ sys­tems and dis­eases, includ­ing neural injury and neuro­de­gen­er­at­ive dis­eases, hem­at­o­logy, dia­betes, and bone regen­er­a­tion. The CRTD explores the capa­city for regen­er­a­tion of the human body and aims to develop novel regen­er­at­ive ther­apies. In order to develop such ther­apies, the research insti­tute explores mech­an­isms of tis­sue repair and stem cell physiology in vivo and in vitro, using dif­fer­ent animal mod­els (zebrafish, mouse, axo­lotl).

Start date is nego­ti­able, but can be as soon as pos­sible. The pos­i­tion is fun­ded by the Alex­an­der-von-Hum­boldt Found­a­tion and will ini­tially be lim­ited until June 30, 2026 with the option for exten­sion. The period of employ­ment is gov­erned by § 2 (2) Fixed Term Research Con­tracts Act (Wis­senschaft­szeitver­trags­ge­setz - Wis­sZeitVG).

Working field:

Zebrafish, in con­trast to humans, regen­er­ate new neur­ons after spinal injury (e.g. Cavone et al., Dev Cell 2021). Mak­ing full use of the trans­par­ency and genetic access­ib­il­ity of the zebrafish model, we can now elu­cid­ate how new neur­ons integ­rate into the spinal net­work. The postdoc will ana­lyse the fate of new neur­ons using our genetic lin­eage tra­cing sys­tem, high-res­ol­u­tion video-micro­scopy, and elec­tro­physiology together with CRTD’ s newly estab­lished core facil­ity. This will lead to fun­da­mental insights into the mech­an­isms of how new neur­ons can repair a dam­aged net­work and provide tar­gets for future inter­ven­tions in non-regen­er­at­ing spe­cies.


uni­versity degree and PhD degree in bio­logy or related fields, high motiv­a­tion, and expert­ise in at least one of the fol­low­ing areas in any model spe­cies:
  • gen­er­a­tion of genetic animal mod­els;
  • in-vivo ima­ging and time-lapse micro­scopy;
  • in-vivo elec­tro­physiology;
  • neuroana­tomy and his­to­logy.
The inter­na­tional Cen­ter oper­ates in Eng­lish and there­fore good know­ledge of both spoken and writ­ten Eng­lish is a require­ment.
