The chair is affiliated to the Department of Nuclear Medicine, in combination with the position of Head of the Department of Positron Emission Tomography at the Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research of Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf e.V. (HZDR).
As member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the HZDR employs about 1,400 people. The HZDR’s focus is on interdisciplinary research in the areas energy, health and matter. The Institute of Radiopharmaceutical Cancer Research is engaged in multidisciplinary radiopharmaceutical cancer research. The institute’s chemical, biological and physical research groups focus on development and evaluation of radio-labelled compounds for functional quantitative oncological PET/CT and PET/MR imaging as well as approaches to systemic (endo-radionuclide/immuno) tumor therapy. In this context, the Department of Positron Emission Tomography develops and validates image reconstruction, image processing, and data analysis methods for improved quantitative functional imaging and characterisation of tumor physiology and translation of such methods into clinical use.
The incumbent is expected to play a decisive role in the planned acquisition and installation of a total body PET/CT system at HZDR and to be dedicated to the continuation of the close collaboration with different clinical research groups at University Hospital Dresden, notably at the Departments of Nuclear Medicine and Radiology as well as at NCT (Nationales Centrum für Tumorerkrankungen) for implementation and analysis of clinical imaging studies. Against this background, we are looking for a scientist (m/f/d) with expertise in at least two of the following research topics:
- advanced motion correction and multi-organ biokinetic modelling for total body PET
- pharmaco- and tracerkinetic modelling in preclinical and clinical imaging for radiotracer development
- application of Deep Learning in tomographic image reconstruction, e.g. optimal utilisation of anatomical (CT or MRI) priors, low-dose PET reconstruction
- improving fully quantitative preclinical imaging (dedicated protocols methods and data analysis approaches to overcome persisting limitations specific to the preclinical field)
- novel data analysis approaches for improving the prognostic value of quantitative functional imaging including validation of the respective quantitative image-based parameters in multi-centric imaging databases and translation of such methods into clinical routine
- personalised high precision dosimetry for endo-radionuclide therapy
We are looking for a scientist with proven competence and first-hand experience in the field of algorithm/methods development and data analysis for quantitative functional imaging (PET/CT, PET/MR, SPECT) are required. Furthermore, a strong focus on translational research is expected. In addition to an excellent scientific record, the candidate should have leadership experi-ence, strategic skills and ability to work in a team, as well as experience in the acquisition of third-party funding. To be eligible for the position, a university degree and a PhD in physics, medical physics, electrical engineering, or a similar specialty is required, as well as a habilitation or habilitation-equivalent achievements.
