The Department of Department Quantum Technologies is looking for a

PhD Student (f/m/d) Single-photon spectroscopy of irradiation-induced defects

Working field:

The objective is to perform single-photon spectroscopy of irradiation-induced defects embedded in photonic structures for their potential application for quantum communication.

As the basis for the preparation of the dissertation, the specific tasks include:

  • Carrying out literature research
  • Planning and execution of experiments with single photon detection
  • Design and fabrication of photonic structures
  • Analysis and modelling of the experimental data
  • Publication and presentation of scientific results


  • Completed university studies (Master`s degree) in the field of Physics, Engineering Physics, related subject area obtained with above-average qualifications
  • Experience in solid-state spectroscopy and nanophotonics
  • Very good skills in experimental physics and simulation of optical structures
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary environment
  • Motivation to carry out research independently
  • Written and spoken English
