At the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Department of Geosciences, the Chair of Geoinformatics offers a position as

Research Associate (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting April 1, 2025. The position is limited until March 31, 2026, with the option for extension subject to the availability of resources, and entails 100% of the full-time weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG).

Working field:

  • conduct research in the EU-funded project “EOSC Data Commons”
  • build (geo-)knowledge graphs for datasets relevant to Earth System Sciences research
  • design and run user experiments to evaluate approaches for (conversational) question answering on geographic knowledge graphs

Requirements:

  • interest in research challenges in the area of (conversational) question answering on geographic knowledge graphs
  • university degree (master of Science or Diploma) in Informatics, Geoinformatics or a related field is required
  • programming experience with Web Technologies (HTML5, CSS, JavaScript) and/or Python are expected
  • familiarity with Semantic Web Standards (RDF, SPARQL) is an advantage
  • first experience with Retrieval Augmented Generation using open-source and/or proprietary large language models is advantageous
  • good command of written and spoken English are expected. Good command of German language is advantageous
  • a reliable, proactive and structured way of working is desirable
