The Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden e. V. (IFW Dresden) conducts modern materials research on a scientific basis for the development of new and sustainable materials and technologies. The institute employs an average of 500 people from over 40 nations and, in addition to its scientific tasks, is dedicated to promoting young scientists and engineers. The IFW supports its employees in reconciling work and family life and regularly undergoes the audit berufundfamilie®. Further information at: http://www.ifw-dresden.de.
The research group “Electron Spectroscopy and Microscopy” of the Institute for Solid State Research at the IFW Dresden offers a PhD Position (m/f/div) on the following topic: in Photoemission Spectroscopy on 2D materials.
The focus is on experimental investigations of the electronic structure of atomically thin transition metal trihalides and chalcogenides. The aim of the work is to investigate how their electronic properties can be specifically influenced by doping, mechanical strain, choice of substrate or by the formation of van der Waals heterostructures.
The work includes the preparation of atomically thin films and their characterization using methods such as atomic force microscopy and optical spectroscopy. The project is embedded in a planned international research training group between Prague and Dresden.
A Master's degree in physics is required, ideally with knowledge of solid-state physics, as well as high motivation and a good command of English.
The employment contract, including remuneration, is based on the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states TV-L EG 13 / part-time with 26 hours/week and is limited to three years. The expected starting date is October 1, 2025.
In line with our commitment to diversity, we encourage qualified women to apply, as we aim to increase female representation in the field of science. Additionally, disabled applicants (m/f/div) will receive preferential consideration if they meet the requisite qualifications. Promising candidates will be invited for an interview.
