As part of the German government's artificial intelligence (AI) strategy, the successful Saxon competence center ScaDS.AI Dresden/Leipzig (Center for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence) is being expanded into a leading German AI competence center for Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI). At the Center for Interdisciplinary Digital Sciences (CIDS), the Department for Scalable Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (ScaDS.AI Dresden) offers a position as
Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
starting at the earliest possible date and limited for period of two years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). A shorter contract term is possible by arrangement. The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification.

Professional assignment: Chair of Machine Learning for Spatial Understanding (Prof. Dr. Martin Weigert)
Research areas: Machine Learning, Computer Vision, Image Analysis

Working field:

  • fundamental or applied research in at least one of the following areas: machine learning for biological image data, scalable computer vision methods
  • preparation of publications for submission to top-tier machine learning conferences
  • contribution to teaching and/or supervision of Bachelor's and Master's theses
  • participation in national and international research projects
    The position comes with access to high performance computing resources and access to training opportunities within ScaDS.AI.

Requirements:

  • university degree in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field
  • strong background in relevant research areas
  • genuine interest in research and a high level of enthusiasm for scientific work
  • strong programming skills and experience in software projects
  • excellent written and spoken English skills
