CARE – Climate-Neutral and Resource-Efficient Construction is a prestigious Cluster of Excellence funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and jointly led by TUD Dresden University of Technology and RWTH Aachen University. Our mission is to revolutionize sustainable construction by integrating innovations in climate-friendly building materials, resource-efficient design principles, automated manufacturing technologies, novel digital methodologies, and integrated sustainability frameworks. By taking a holistic approach to construction, CARE aims to drive the transition to climate-neutral and resource-efficient building practices on a global scale. TUD invites applications for the following position within the framework of this cluster with starting date January 1, 2026:
Research Associate / PhD Student/ Postdoc (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
The position is initially limited to two years, with the option of extension. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). Balancing family and career is an important issue. The position is generally suitable for candidates seeking part-time employment. Please indicate the request in your application.

We invite motivated early-career researchers in fields related to sustainable construction to apply for multiple Research Associate positions. As a successful applicant, you will pursue independent, cutting-edge research aligned with CARE’s mission and contribute to our interdisciplinary agenda of reimagining construction for a climate-neutral future. Candidates from a broad range of relevant disciplines – including civil and structural engineering, architecture, environmental science, materials science, sustainability science, computer science (digital construction), and related areas – are encouraged to apply.

We are looking for talented, passionate researchers who meet the following requirements and are eager to push boundaries in an interdisciplinary setting:

  • Educational Excellence: For PhD positions, an outstanding university degree (Master or equivalent) in a relevant field is required. For Postdoc positions, a university and doctoral degree (PhD) in a relevant discipline is required.
  • Scientific Curiosity: A strong interest in sustainable construction and a drive to contribute to high-impact research in line with CARE’s mission.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent proficiency in English, both written and spoken (English is the working language of the cluster). Knowledge of German is a plus but not required.
  • Teamwork & Collaboration: Flexibility and willingness to work collaboratively in a dynamic, diverse team environment. An open mind to engage across disciplines and the ability to communicate ideas constructively are essential.
  • Analytical Ability: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a creative approach to addressing research challenges.
  • Independent Work Ethic: A self-driven, independent work attitude with a solution-oriented mindset and the initiative to lead research tasks responsibly.
