Fraunhofer-Institut für Photonische Mikrosysteme IPMS

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft (www.fraunhofer.com) currently operates 76 institutes and research units throughout Germany and is a leading applied research organization. Around 32 000 employees work with an annual research budget of 3.4 billion euros.

Working Student in Data Management with Python for the Standardization of Electrical Measurements

Developing innovative technology solutions and bringing them to application - that is our goal at the Fraunhofer Institute for Photonic Microsystems IPMS. With our expertise in the development of photonic microsystems, related technologies including nanoelectronics and wireless communication solutions, we create - in flexible and interdisciplinary teams - technologies for innovative products in a wide range of markets such as automotive, industrial and aerospace.

New electronic components are being developed at the Fraunhofer IPMS, in the business unit of Emerging Memory Solutions. During the characterization of these components on 300mm silicon wafers, large amounts of data are generated by extensive electrical measurements. An efficient preparation of data is therefore crucial for short learning cycles. The content of your activity is the improvement as well as the implementation of procedures for the automated data processing and visualization using Python.

Aufgabenbeschreibung:

  • Device-dependent electrical data parsing: You develop fully automated methods to parse electrical data into a report-friendly format for both short flows and full wafer sets, ensuring efficient and accurate data representation.
  • Database creation and data entry: You create structured databases and enter measured data to enable smoother tracking and analysis for process development and characterization.
  • Database integration with internal software: You connect databases to internal data processing software, streamlining workflows and enabling seamless data management.
  • Machine learning for wafer data analysis: You develop and implement machine learning routines, such as clustering and anomaly detection, to analyze and compare large data sets of wafer parameters of interest.
  • Data visualization and automation improvements: You design and implement new features to enhance data visualization, processing, and automation, improving the efficiency of workflows.
  • Knowledge of physics application in programming: You apply your understanding of physics to develop robust and accurate programming code for process and data analysis tasks.
  • Code documentation: You document your code thoroughly to ensure clarity, reproducibility, and ease of use for future users and team members.
  • Team collaboration and coordination: You collaborate closely with process engineers and other team members to align project objectives, share insights, and integrate new developments into existing workflows.

The tasks can also be implemented as part of an internship.

Erwartete Qualifikationen:

  • Academic Background: You are currently pursuing a degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or Applied Computer Science (Bachelor or Master), with a strong interest in data analysis, programming, and process development.
  • Programming Skills: You have experience with object-oriented programming, particularly in Python, and are comfortable working with libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, and machine learning-related frameworks.
  • Database and File Format Knowledge: You are familiar with SQL for database management and JSON for data exchange, enabling you to work efficiently with structured data.
  • Code Proficiency: You possess fast code reading skills and have knowledge of GIT for version control, both of which are advantageous for collaborative development and debugging.
  • Work Ethic: You have a reliable, independent, and structured approach to working, ensuring tasks are completed with precision and efficiency.
  • Team Interaction: You are not shy to ask questions, actively engage with team members, and immerse yourself in collaborative efforts to achieve project goals.
  • Language Skills: You have very good proficiency in English for effective communication and basic knowledge of German to support integration within the work environment.
