The TU Dres­den is one of ele­ven Ger­man uni­ver­si­ties that were iden­ti­fied as an “excel­lence uni­ver­sity”. TUD has about 36.500 stu­dents and almost 5319 employees, 507 pro­fes­sors among them, and, thus, is the lar­gest uni­ver­sity in Sax­ony, today.

Having been com­mit­ted to sci­en­ces and the engi­nee­ring before the reuni­fi­ca­tion of Ger­many, TU Dres­den now is a multi-disci­pline uni­ver­sity, also offe­ring huma­nities and social sci­en­ces as well as medi­cine.

The posi­tion is, sub­ject to the avai­la­bi­lity of resour­ces, star­ting Octo­ber 1, 2022. We offer a posi­tion with 65 % of the full­time wee­kly hours for initi­ally 3 years with the pos­si­bi­lity of exten­sion. The period of employ­ment is gover­ned by the Fixed Term Rese­arch Con­tracts Act (Wis­sen­schafts­zeit­ver­trags­ge­setz – WissZeitVG). The posi­tion offers the chance to obtain fur­ther aca­de­mic qua­li­fi­ca­tion (e.g. PhD).
The rese­arch inte­rests of our chair focus on mole­cu­lar and cel­lu­lar pathways that govern the genera­tion, life­style and func­tion of Foxp3+ regu­latory T (Treg) cells (web­page: https://tu-dresden.de/cmcb/crtd/forschungsgruppen/crtd-forschungsgruppen/kretschmer). Treg cells play an essen­tial role in main­tai­ning immune home­o­sta­sis, which is exem­pli­fied by the obser­va­tion that acute Treg cell abla­tion in a NOD mouse model of human type 1 dia­be­tes unleas­hes overt auto­im­mune dia­be­tes wit­hin days (Pet­zold et al., J Dia­be­tes Res 2013; Mayer et al., Immun Inflamm Dis. 2014; Watts et al., Front Immu­nol. 2021). Con­ver­sely, Treg cells rep­re­sent exci­ting gain-of-func­tion tar­gets in cli­ni­cal set­tings of unwan­ted immune respon­ses, such as auto­im­mune disea­ses.

Working field:

The rese­arch posi­tion we offer is part of a pro­ject in which we aim to inves­ti­gate the mole­cu­lar and epi­ge­ne­tic mecha­nisms under­ly­ing the deve­lop­ment and main­ten­ance of Foxp3+ Treg cell sub­li­neages of thy­mic and peri­pheral deve­lop­men­tal ori­gin (Schal­len­berg et al. E Exp Med. 2010; Pet­zold et al. Eur J Immu­nol. 2014.) In this con­text, a par­ti­cu­lar focus is pla­ced on explo­ring the pos­si­bi­lity that dif­fe­rent deve­lop­men­tal Treg cell sub­sets exert spe­cia­li­zed effec­tor func­tions in the con­trol of organ-spe­ci­fic auto­im­mune disease, meta­bo­lic home­o­sta­sis, and tis­sue rege­ne­ra­tion. The posi­tion will give you an excel­lent chance for fur­ther aca­de­mic study and rese­arch.

Requirements:

We aim at attrac­ting the best talent in the respec­tive rese­arch fields and expect the fol­lo­wing: an out­stan­ding uni­ver­sity degree in Bio­logy, Sci­ence or rela­ted field of sci­ence; expe­ri­ence in T cell immu­no­logy, mul­ti­co­lor flow cyto­me­try, Cre/loxP sys­tem in mice, auto­im­mune mouse models, epi­ge­ne­tics and tran­scrip­to­mics; abi­lity to work in an inter­na­tio­nal team is essen­tial; inter- and mul­ti­di­sci­pli­nary thin­king; high moti­va­tion; an inte­gra­tive and coope­ra­tive per­so­na­lity with excel­lent com­mu­ni­ca­tion and social skills; flu­ency in Eng­lish – writ­ten and oral.
