The Insti­tute for Ion Beam Phys­ics and Mater­i­als Research is ded­ic­ated to the study of mater­i­als and their nano­struc­tures that can be con­sidered for future applic­a­tions in inform­a­tion tech­no­logy and are based on elec­trical, mag­netic or optical func­tion­al­it­ies.

As part of the Insti­tute, the Ion Beam Centre invites applic­a­tions as PhD stu­dent (f/m/d) on the topic "Spa­tially resolved single or few ion implant­a­tions for quantum tech­no­logy".

The pos­i­tion will be avail­able at the earli­est pos­sible date. The employ­ment con­tract is lim­ited to three years.

Working field:

  • Invest­ig­ate the tech­nical require­ments for the suc­cess­ful real­iz­a­tion of single or few ion implants
  • Devel­op­ment of a detector suit­able for the detec­tion of single ion implant­a­tion events
  • Fab­ric­a­tion and char­ac­ter­iz­a­tion of liquid metal alloy ion sources for local implant­a­tion
  • Gen­er­a­tion of defects and color cen­ters as single photon emit­ters and implant­a­tion of 5th main group ele­ments as donor qubits for quantum tech­no­logy applic­a­tions
  • Optical and elec­trical char­ac­ter­iz­a­tion of single dop­ing atoms and ion-induced defects, e.g., by means of cath­odo­lu­min­es­cence

Requirements:

  • Very good gradu­ated degree (Dip­loma / Mas­ter) in Phys­ics, Mater­ial Sci­ence or sim­ilar degree in nat­ural sci­ences
  • Exper­i­ence in con­duct­ing exper­i­mental work and the abil­ity to build del­ic­ate devices
  • Exper­i­ence in the applic­a­tion of charged particle beams and vacuum tech­no­logy
  • Pro­gram­ming know­ledge for example in C++, Python, Lab­View, Mat­lab or Java
  • Very good team­work skills with abil­ity to col­lab­or­ate both with exper­i­ment­al­ists and the­or­ists
  • Very good Eng­lish lan­guage skills (spoken and writ­ten)
