The Department of Reactive Transport is looking for a

PhD Student (f/m/d) Crystal surface reactivity.

In the 2nd year there is the option of increasing the weekly working hours to 75 %.

Working field:

The sorption efficiency of trivalent actinides/lanthanides on nanostructured crystal surfaces is investigated in a research network using spectroscopic, microscopic, and tomographic methods:

  • Crystal defect density analysis, sorption experiments
  • Analysis of surface nanotopography evolution
  • Tomographic analysis of the flow field and sorption efficiency of porous materials

Requirements:

  • Completed university studies (Diploma/Master) in the field of Earth sciences, Chemistry, Materials Science or related field
  • Basic knowledge of microscopic and/or spectroscopic analysis and in crystallography
  • Knowledge and experience in experimental work (dissolution, precipitation or sorption experiments)
  • Willingness to work in a radiochemical laboratory and to work with open radionuclides
  • Very good written and spoken English
  • Knowledge of German is an advantage
