Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

At the Faculty of Mathematics, Institute of Algebra, the Chair of Algebra and Discrete Structures offers a position as
Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
starting December 1, 2024. The position is limited to 3 years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification (usually PhD). Balancing family and career is an important issue. The position is generally suitable for candidates seeking part-time employment. Please indicate the request in your application.

Working field:

you contribute to the ERC Synergy Grant “POCOCOP (Polynomial-time computation: opening the black boxes in constraint problems)”. This includes the systematic exploration of polynomial-time tractability in the field of constraint satisfaction and its extensions, in particular promise CSPs, valued CSPs, and CSPs over infinite domains. The work is embedded in a larger research team and involves exchange visits with the partner universities in Prague and Vienna.

Requirements:

  • university degree in mathematics or computer science
  • strong background in at least one of the following fields: theoretical computer science, model theory, or universal algebra
  • high motivation and creativity
