Metallic micro-structures for micro-robots’ localization and sensing

Working field:

The aim of the project is to design, fabricate, test, model and optimize a submillimeter-scale micro-structure, which is used for magneto-mechanical localization and sensing, via electrodeposition. The project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant VIBEBOT, for the initial period of 1 year.

Requirements:

Specific tasks for the Master student include:

  • 3D print of templates with 2-photon lithography
  • Electrodeposition of metallic materials
  • Modeling of the structural dynamics
  • Microscopic video analysis and shape optimization
A master student in Engineering, Physics or relevant subjects is required. An interest or experience in the fields of microsystem engineering, microdevices and microfluidics, and wireless actuation are preferred. The successful candidate should be self-motivated and possess excellent English skills; also, be open to discuss new ideas in an interdisciplinary team and be flexible to apply various experimental methods. The project can be further extended to a student research project or a master thesis.
