5 Research Associates/ PhD students (m/f/x)

The Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1143 "Correlated Magnetism: From Frustration To Topology" offers 5 positions as
Research Associate/ PhD student (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)
starting as soon as possible. The positions are limited until December 31, 2026 and entail 50% to 75% of the full-time weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The extension of employment up to 3 years is planned subject to the availability of existing funds. The positions offer the chance to obtain further academic qualification (usually PhD).

Working field:

The SFB is devoted to the investigation of materials and models with strong electronic correlations, focusing on frustrated magnetism and topological states of matter. Positions are available in the fields: Experimental Condensed Matter Physics (2 positions), Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics (2 positions), Inorganic Chemistry (1 positions).
Scientific tasks within the SFB encompass synthesis of novel materials, crystal growth, measurements of thermodynamic and transport properties, also under extreme conditions, neutron and electron spectroscopy, scanning probe microscopy and spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance measurements, numerical simulations of quantum spin systems, and calculations of thermodynamic and transport properties using microscopic or field-theoretic methods. We expect a close collaboration with scientific partners and the supervision of Bachelor and Master thesis projects.

Requirements:

a very good university degree, preferentially in physics or chemistry; motivation for doing outstanding basic research both independently and in collaborations; proficiency in German or English; ideally experience with experiments or modeling of magnetic materials.
