Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

At the Faculty of Psychology, Institute of Work, Organizational and Social Psychology, the Chair of Social Psychology offers a position as

Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)
(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting July 1, 2025. The position is initially limited for three years with the option of extension and entails 75% of the full-time weekly hours. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (usually PhD).
We are looking for someone to work on (one of) two core research themes: (1) How (mis)perceiving other people’s ambivalent attitudes affects social judgment and behavior, and (2) The potential benefits of ambivalence in in different settings, ranging from decision-making, to creativity, and motivation. We use a wide range of methods, including survey psychology, response-time paradigms, process-tracking techniques (mouse-tracking, eye-tracking), and incentive-based behavioral paradigms and experience in (learning) multiple approaches is considered a plus but not required. Working field:

scientific research and teaching and the development of independent scientific ideas in the research area of the chair (see above). Duties include the guidance and support of students in scientific work, acquiring (small) third-party funding projects, and successfully publishing scientific work. Furthermore, staff will participate in the Social Psychology Chair teaching and examination in the Psychology Bachelor, Teacher Training, and Master program in Psychology and Human Performance Socio-Technological Systems.

Requirements:

a university degree (Diploma/Master) in psychology or related fields. Willingness to pursue own scientific qualification/career and acquisition of third-party funded projects. Experience with experimental research is considered a plus but not required.
