At the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, the Department of Geosciences invites applications for the
Chair (W3) of Human Geography
to be filled at the earliest possible date.
We would like to attract a person (m/f/x) of high international visibility to represent the field of human geography in research and teaching. In research, we expect a clear profile, evidenced by international contributions to current challenges of sustainable and resilient development at the human/society-environment interface, especially in connection with extreme events. You deal with social change processes at various scales. Your broadly recognized theoretical and application-oriented research contributions include economic, social and political/planning developments in areas and regions. As a researcher, you have expertise in empirical methods of human geographies and in transdisciplinary research. Your teaching duties will include teaching courses in human geography, including the full range of methods, both in German and English in the area of dedication in the geography degree programs (Bachelor's, Master's, teachers training at secondary schools and high schools) and in teaching exports for other degree program in the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and neighboring faculties. Your tasks will include the supervision of final and PhD theses. In research, we expect a willingness to engage in inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration for joint projects in national and international funding programs. We expect interdisciplinary cooperation in the Faculty of Environmental Sciences, which embraces research groups in Earth Sciences, Hydrology and Forest Sciences, in particular links to the future potential of our faculty as well as the other faculties and scientific institutions of TUD, the DRESDEN-concept facilities, and the UNU-FLORES in Dresden. Participation in academic self-administration as well as in the committees of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and TUD is obligatory.
We are looking for an internationally recognized and well-connected researcher in the field of human geography. We require very good teaching skills as well as the ability and willingness to teach in German and English. You should demonstrate successful acquisition of third-party funding (preferably DFG, other national research funds, BMBF, European Commission programs), excellent international publications, international contacts and successful supervision of academic theses and doctoral students. The requirements for appointment, the official duties and the administrative status are governed by §§ 59, 69, 71 of the Institutions of Higher Education Act in the Free State of Saxony (SächsHSG) and the Regulations on Duties and Responsibilities of Institutes of Higher Education (HSDAVO).
