Chair (W2) of Media and Communication with a Focus on Political Communication and Media Change
(with tenure track to W3)
to be filled at the earliest possible date for three years.
Following a successful tenure evaluation procedure, the appointment to a permanent Chair (W3) of Media and Communication with a Focus on/ Political Communication and Media Change will be granted. The evaluation procedure is based on mutually agreed evaluation criteria, in particular in the categories of research, academic teaching, academic self-administration and knowledge transfer.

Working field:

Key Duties and Academic Responsibilities
The chair represents the scientific discipline of media and communication in research and teaching in its full breadth. The research focus lies on political communication and media change. At the core of this focus is the analysis of actor strategies, communication structures, media content, public discourse, and/or audience behavior under changing media conditions, as well as the consequences of these transformations for democratic processes and social participation. Another focus is on Computational Communication Research, understood as the study of communication processes shaped by large datasets, algorithmic structures, and AI-based applications. This includes, in particular, applying and advancing computational research methods. Both areas of focus should be compatible with TUD’s future research priority area “Transformation and Democracy.” The chair has an interdisciplinary orientation and an international network. In teaching, it is integrated into the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs of the Institute of Media and Communication and it actively contributes to the further development of the Master’s program “Applied Media Research.” Teaching responsibilities also include the supervision of student theses and dissertations. The chair actively participates in academic self-governance and university committees.
