Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

At the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, Institute of Railway Vehicles and Railway Technology, the Chair of Rail Vehicles offers a position as
Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)
starting as soon as possible. The position is to be filled on a fixed‑term basis for a period of three years, full‑time, with the option of a further two‑year extension, subject to the availability of resources. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz - WissZeitVG). The position aims at obtaining further academic qualification (usually PhD).

Tasks:

— conduct scientific research and teaching at the Chair, with a particular focus on rail vehicle maintenance and system optimisation
— acquire and participate in national and international research projects
— publications in international peer reviewed journals and conferences
— contribute to the planning and organisation of teaching activities
— assist in the development and expansion of the Chair’s laboratory equipment and facilities
— tasks of academic self-governance

Requirements:

— university degree in the field of mechanical engineering, rail vehicle engineering, civil engineering or related courses of study (minimum: Diplom Ing. or M.Sc.)
— working knowledge of multibody and/or finite element simulation software
— expertise in the simulation of rail vehicle systems and in modelling wheel rail contact and damage
— good command of German or English, both for teaching and for preparing research proposals and publications
— highly independent and committed way of working, solid communication skills and team spirit
