Research Data Manager (m/f/x)

The new Cluster of Excellence “Responsible Electronics in the Climate Change Era – REC²” offers a position as
Research Data Manager (m/f/x)
starting as soon as possible. The position is limited until December 31, 2032 (time limitation pursuant to TzBfG).
A defining characteristic of the Cluster of Excellence REC² is its diversity, which brings together different scientific perspectives and translates research into societal contexts. As research data from various disciplines (e.g. material science, physics, chemistry, electrical engineering, computer science, resource management, business and economics, communication science, and sociology) are generated within the cluster, REC² is seeking an experienced professional to coordinate and further develop the handling of these data. In this key role, you will work closely with researchers, service units, and infrastructure providers to develop sustainable, cross-disciplinary solutions.

Tasks:

— Lead the strategic design and scientific advancement of a coherent and future-oriented Research Data Management (RDM) framework within EXC REC²
— Scientific support, methodological design, and evaluation of central, scalable research data infrastructures and integrated database systems for the sustainable storage, publication, and long-term preservation of heterogeneous research data
— Analysis, harmonisation, and further development of cross-disciplinary data and metadata standards in accordance with national and international guidelines (e.g., FAIR, Open Science)
— Strategic development and continuous refinement of a cluster-wide Data Policy, including the research-based derivation of binding standards for data organisation, documentation, and legal and ethical compliance
— Scientific-analytical evaluation of existing RDM practices and development of sustainable structural and implementation strategies
— Professional advisory support to the cluster management as well as coordination and scientific consultation of the six Responsible Aim Programmes (RAPs) in the methodological design and continuous refinement of their Data Management Plans (DMPs)
— Design and delivery of research-based training and qualification formats in RDM, systematically integrating change management approaches
— Serve as a central interface between researchers, TUD service units, and internal and external infrastructure partners

Requirements:

— A university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Information Science, Data Science, or a related natural or engineering discipline with a strong focus on Information or Data Science
— Relevant experience in research data management, preferably in an interdisciplinary or data-intensive environment
— Experience in developing and implementing concepts, policies, or strategies in the field of data management and/or research infrastructures
— Confident handling of heterogeneous data formats (e.g. measurement and simulation data, text and tabular formats, CAD files, code) as well as databases and metadata schemes
— Knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python) and data analysis environments (e.g., Origin)
— Experience working with diverse stakeholders (researchers, service and infrastructure units, external partners)
— A structured, independent, and conceptually strategic working style
— Very good written and spoken German and English
